Hey, there! I’m Kerry – Jet Lagged Kerry, if you will. It’s so nice to meet you!
Are you a travel newbie or trying to travel while still doing the 9-5? I’m here for you. I’m here to make travel seem less overwhelming, and to redefine the traditional idea of what “travel” really is. I’m here to make travel more accessible to everyone, because it’s made my life so much better. I’ll give you my cheap travel tips, help you navigate close-to-home travel, and encourage you to make the most of your adventures (sent straight to your inbox, if you’d like). Why should you follow along, you may ask?
Let me tell you my story…
Have you ever been so scared that all you could do was pull the covers over your head and hide?
Ah, the moment of pure panic – the least talked about aspect of travel! If you asked me about studying abroad now, this moment wouldn’t be the first I’d mention. I had the most amazing 4 months abroad during my senior year of college – the best 4 months of my life. But semester began with me being so terrified that I could barely move. I was alone in a big house and had just spent over 12 hours travelling to a city that my parents swear I had been to before, but I felt like I was on another planet. Before this moment, I had spent a year being so excited to get to Galway that I couldn’t sit still in my classes and it was all I could talk about. All I could think was, “How have I made such a monumental mistake?”
In retrospect, it was the opposite of a mistake. It was great thing that I had no phone and my laptop wouldn’t charge, because I absolutely would have called my mother to come get me. So, what did I do? I put my shoes on and I went outside.
Ever since having that mild breakdown, I’ve been obsessed with travelling. But, as you can see, I was completely unprepared for… all of it. On top of crying hysterically for the whole first day, I packed all the wrong things and referred to my house as “my flat” for weeks (which nobody in Ireland under the age of 50 uses, just in case you were wondering). I always wished that there were resources available to people like me that would have prepped me for what I was in for. And, a speedy 4 years later, Jet Lagged Kerry came to be!
I am on a constant search for delicious baked goods, hoppy IPAs, friendly locals, and the perfect photo op. I’m a fan of slow travel, and I’m overcoming an addiction to overpacking. I waffle (yum) between being awkwardly quiet and talking your ear off, and I own more scented candles than any one person should.
I’ve gathered up some knowledge along the way, and all I’ve learned is no good just sitting inside my head. Sounds like something you could get on board with? Let’s be friends!
